Support & FAQ

Shoot at a steel plate or gong. Steel gives a sharp, clear impact sound; paper, wood and soft backstops often don't register. Shield the phone from wind, and run the calibration so Balchron learns your gun and target.

Velocity is calculated from the measured flight time and the distance, so it is only as good as the distance you enter. A tape-measured distance beats a quick GPS mark. Readings are estimates from phone sensors — see the Terms of Use — and shouldn't be used where a certified chronograph is required.

Phone GPS is typically accurate to a few metres, which matters over short ranges. Mark each position under open sky, wait for the fix to settle and let Balchron average several readings. For short ranges, measure with a tape and type the distance in. Your coordinates stay on your phone.
