These terms apply to this website and to the apps published by AlephVec Labs (Pty) Ltd, registration no. 2026/821118/07 (“AlephVec Labs”, “we”, “us”). By using the website or any of our apps you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use them.

The important part: our apps give estimates from phone sensors. They are not certified measuring instruments and must not be used for legal, enforcement or safety-critical purposes. Never operate your phone while driving.

1. Using our apps

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use our apps on devices you own or control, for lawful purposes and in line with these terms and the terms of the store you downloaded them from (such as Google Play). We keep all rights in the apps, this website and their content that we don't expressly grant.

2. Readings are estimates

Speed, velocity, energy, distance, location and other readings our apps show are estimates calculated from your phone's sensors (such as the microphone, GPS and motion sensors). Their accuracy depends on your device, its sensors, the environment and how the app is set up and used.
Our apps are not certified or calibrated measuring instruments. Do not rely on their readings for legal, regulatory, licensing, evidential or enforcement purposes — for example to prove that a firearm or airgun complies with a legal power or velocity limit, or to challenge a speeding fine — or for any decision where an incorrect reading could cause injury, loss or damage.
Where accuracy matters, verify readings with certified equipment.

3. Safe and lawful use

Do not operate your phone while driving. Set an app up before you drive, mount the phone securely if you use it in a vehicle, and let a passenger operate it. Always obey road traffic laws.
Firearms and airguns. Balchron is a measurement tool for lawful sport shooting. Comply with the firearm and airgun laws where you shoot, follow range rules and safe-handling practice at all times, and never let using an app distract you from safe handling. Our apps are not a safety device.
Recordings. Don't record people without their knowledge. Let people nearby know when you are recording.
Balchron is intended only for adults (18+).

4. Accounts

Some apps let you create an optional account. Give accurate information, keep your password secure and tell us if you think someone else has used your account. We may suspend or close accounts used to abuse our services or break these terms. You can delete your account at any time — see account deletion.

5. Content you send us

If you upload recordings or send feedback, you confirm you have the right to do so and you grant us a free, worldwide, non-exclusive licence to store, analyse and use that content to operate and improve our apps. How we handle personal information in that content is set out in our Privacy Policy.

6. Acceptable use

Don't misuse our apps or services: don't interfere with or overload them, attempt to gain unauthorised access, upload unlawful or harmful content, or reverse engineer the apps except where the law allows it.

7. Availability and changes

We may update, change or discontinue apps, features or online services at any time. We don't guarantee that they will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free.

8. Purchases

Our apps are currently free and the website sells nothing. If we introduce paid features, they will be sold through the app store, under that store's payment terms and any additional terms we show you before you buy.

9. Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by law, our apps, this website and all readings and information they provide are supplied “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, AlephVec Labs, its directors and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss or damage, or for any loss or damage arising from reliance on readings or information provided by our apps or this website. Our total liability for any claim relating to our apps or this website is limited to the amount you paid us for the app or feature concerned in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for gross negligence or fraud, or any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 that cannot be waived.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the courts of South Africa have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The effective date at the top shows the current version. If you keep using our apps or website after a change, the updated terms apply. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
