Measure velocity
with your phone.
Balchron listens for the shot and the hit, measures the range and solves muzzle velocity and energy. No screens to set up, nothing to shoot through.
How it works
A projectile's flight time over a known distance gives its velocity. Balchron gets both from your phone.
Set the range
Mark the shooter and target positions with GPS — Balchron averages many fixes and rejects outliers — or type in a tape-measured distance.
Arm and shoot
Balchron records at your phone's highest microphone sample rate and detects the muzzle report and the impact on a steel target.
Read the result
It corrects for the speed of sound at your air temperature and reports velocity (m/s and fps) and energy, saved to your shot history.
Features
Built for real ranges: patchy signal, wind, and no time to fiddle.
Acoustic timing
Band-filtered onset detection separates the shot from wind and noise, and calibrates to your gun and target.
GPS distance
Averaged shooter and target marks with outlier rejection, computed on the device. Your coordinates never leave your phone.
Break-screen hardware
Pair Balchron with an optional two-gate timing unit over Wi-Fi for hardware-timed readings when you need them.
History & energy
Every shot is kept with its velocity, energy, distance and conditions, so you can compare loads and pellets.
Offline at the range
Measuring works with no signal. Anything you choose to upload queues on the phone and sends when you're back online.
Help improve it
Optionally share recordings of your shots. Each one is opt-in and goes into tuning detection for every rifle, pellet and target.
